If you could improve one thing about yourself as a leader, what would it be? Whether it’s leading our families, our employees, or an entire enterprise, we are all challenged at one point to step up and lead. Our return guest, Trevor Mauch, is the CEO of Carrot, Oregon’s fastest-growing software company and #699 on the Inc 5000 list. He’s a hardcore entrepreneur and he joins us today to share his story of how he’s managed to turn what was once just a spark of an idea into a highly-profitable and impactful brand with over 25 employees (and over 5,000 clients!) nationwide. We have an invigorating conversation about the growing pains he’s had to go through and why, unlike his past ventures, he can still see himself running this company 5-10 years out.

The Conversation:

  • 9:07 - Once you have a vision for your future, your dreams will begin to materialize quicker. Think long term for your family and your business - create a life list! Where do you want to wake up in 5, 10, 25, 50 years? The life Trevor was living as a serial-entrepreneur and freelancer actually wasn’t the life he wanted.

  • 13:00 - Many of us as entrepreneurs tend to “cycle” every 3-5 years or so and get bored of the very thing that we create. We need to practice patience and persistence and focus on what resources that we have right in front of us. Become an expert in one thing before branching out and focus on niching down in your industry.

  • 18:20 - Make yourself “less relevant”. Being a great leader sometimes means taking a step back and empowering your team to step in. Learn how Trevor has created systems and processes that have allowed him to gain more freedom and flexibility, while still being the voice of the brand.

  • 21:30 - Leaders must make tough decisions. When we avoid them, we put the successes of our business, our team, and ourselves at risk. Hear why turnover is a sign of a healthy culture... to a certain point.
  • 29:04 - Work within your unique abilities, run in your own lane, and niche down. Know your WHY. “Prosperity comes from purpose.” - Trevor Mauch
