We have been fortunate to work with some of the biggest brands in the world. We are very lucky! You’ve got to go after the industries you’re passionate about. - Tyler Lafferty

How do you manage multiple companies in different fields and stay on top of things?

  • It all comes down to the right people with the right skillset. Tyler knows he can’t be everywhere and do everything at once.
  • He and his partner have put the right people in the right places to make things move.
  • They help set the vision and create an environment for their managers to do what they do to the best of their ability.
  • The true key is ensuring that each partner has the same vision and heartbeat that you do.

There’s a time when you wake up and realize you can’t do it all and you keep hitting a wall. That’s when you really start looking for the right individuals to help do the work. - Tyler Lafferty

What is the bridge between Tyler’s entrepreneurial lifestyle and his passion for mentorship?

  • Tyler has a huge passion for bringing the real world into education and comes in as a guest regularly to the classroom environment to speak.
  • What Tyler realized is that learning environments truly need more people from various industries to be connecting with students.
  • He created AtoE (Access to Experience) to help connect students with experienced professionals.
  • Both students and teachers in schools have reaped tremendous benefits from the resources of these professionals.
  • On the flip side, it’s a fulfilling way for industry professionals to give back as well.

Teachers always joke that “when I say something students roll their eyes and joke around, but when I bring someone from the outside with real-world experience they’re all ears.” - Tyler Lafferty

Tyler speaks on what drove him to write his book, “Be More Like You.”

  • The message that I keep finding myself talking about in the classroom environment is, “what does it look like to get into the real world?”
  • Unfortunately not having the right information causes people to experience fear of the unknown and falter.
  • My goal was to give people a condensed format of my authentic advice for the real world to help conquer the fear and move forward.
  • I wanted to give young people the tools to succeed and to dispel the myth that there has to be a perfect path that leads to success.

The truth is that there is no perfect path to success. There is so much good to be learned on the winding path. - Tyler Lafferty

What is the “IDEAS” Framework?

  • The Ideas Framework is an integral part of Tyler’s book that offers tools to help young people discover their potential by utilizing six tools.
  • I for Introspection: Learn to unpack what industries truly makes you excited and passionate.
  • D for Design: Find the types of people you need to network with to learn more about your industry of choice and furthermore starting to build your network of connections.

  • E for Exploration: Actually interact with these people and pursue job shadowing opportunities and internships where you get into the field at a practical level.
  • A for Adaptability: Oftentimes what you might find out early on is that a particular field is not right for you and so it’s important to learn to be adaptable to pivot into another area of interest.
  • S for Service: We are all fighting for purpose in work. You may not find that in work, but you can always find this fulfillment in “giving back” through community service.

If failure wasn’t an option what would you be spending your time doing today? - Tyler Lafferty

How do you find good mentors?

  • Always surround yourself with people who are further ahead than yourself as this is the best place to grow.
  • If you want to find good mentorship you have to pursue and go after it, it most often will not come to you.
  • To whom much is given in mentorship, much is required. Always give back to others just as you have received.

When we receive a lot of help along the journey of life, it is vital to turn that back around and give in return to others. - Tyler Lafferty
