3 Key Takeaways

  1. Mind the gap between your ethics and your decisions.
  2. Are you a person of integrity or do you just want people to think you are?
  3. If you don’t have a clear conscience, nothing in this world will satisfy you.

Show Notes

The definition of integrity that you’ve probably never heard

  • Integrity is minding the gap between your ethics and your decisions.
  • Self-search to find what your true standards of morality are, and live in a way that reflects those values.
  • If you don’t know your values the world will decide your principles for you.
  • You can’t compartmentalize integrity. If you have integrity in one area of your life, you should have it on the whole.

Integrity runs through and through. You can’t have integrity in one part of your life and not the whole. - Seth Buechley

The top three ethics questions you should be asking yourself in 2021

  • Ethic Number 1 is value: What do I look up to in life and in what ways do I want to show up in that same way?
  • Ethic Number 2 is impact: How do you want to have an impact on the world around you and what principles can serve as a compass?
  • Ethic Number 3 is reality: am I the playwright or the player in the play. What things are are outside of myself that I have adopted that constrain me?

Find a word that defines each of these three ethics. Pick one each for each new year and live by them. - Seth Buechley

The three “don’ts” of integrity

  • Don’t pursue integrity for the sake of accolades. Often people will misunderstand your intentions and find you judgmental because of your integrity.
  • Don’t give up on your integrity because of failure. Living a life of integrity means you’re in it for the long haul.
  • Don’t give up because of suffering. When things become a struggle think of Job who did not give up his integrity in the face of ruin.

The price of integrity is suffering. But the rewards are everlasting. - Seth Buechley

Who are the three groups of people that are watching your integrity?

    • God is watching you. He is not watching in a judgmental fashion, but with love. God’s grace and sacrifice on the cross should empower us to live a life of integrity.
    • Your family is watching you. The way you handle the little things is important. Your kids are watching how you react to things and your sphere of influence is watching to see how you make decisions in hard situations.

  • You are watching you. We are constantly judging ourselves in the courtroom of our conscience relative to the gap of what we want to be and how we behave.
